Look-and-Feel and Accessibility

  • Why can't I change the size of the font on my e-reader or my tablet?

Books on Yellowhead Regional Library can be available in one of two formats: EPUB and PDF. EPUB files are flexible in that you can change certain aspects of the layout, including font size or color. PDF files, on the other hand, are more static. Font size cannot be changed, which makes reading on an e-reader much harder, or even impossible.

  • Can Yellowhead Regional Library's ebooks be read by people who are blind or visually impaired?

Adobe Digital Editions integrates with built-in accessibility features in Mac and Windows, as well as other software such as JAWS or VoiceOver. Adobe Digital Editions can be fully controlled using the keyboard (navigation and shortcuts), font size and contrast can be changed and, with the appropriate screen-reading software, the navigation tabs, table of contents and the entire book can be read out loud.

Some e-readers and mobile apps also provide text-to-speech capabilities.
